OPITO appoints its new CEO
The Offshore Petroleum Industry Organization (OPITO), which sets the standards for the oil and gas industry since 1991, appoints its new CEO, John McDonald. OPITO has been improving workforce safety and competency through the trainings they conduct. Over 250, 000 people train to OPITO standards across the globe every year. And here in the Philippines, offshore safety schools also provide opito training to students who aspire to board ships.
This organizational change seeks to further drive the international agenda on skills applied in the oil and gas industry. Prior to being a part of OPITO, Mr. McDonald was a director at ACTVET, the government body placed in charge with creating vocational education and training system in Abu Dhabi.
As the newly appointed CEO, he plans to ensure that OPITO continues to be the globally industry-led organization that drives not only the skills agenda, but also in helping modernize standards and improve competency by embracing digital technologies.
Later this year, OPITO is gearing up to launch an initiative to create a step to change training standards through technology driven innovation.
