Smart Communications, in partnership with Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), honored hundreds of seafarers as modern day heroes for their hard work, as well as their intense maritime training here in the Philippines. It was held last June 25 during the International Seafarer’s Day at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) in Pasay City. The annual celebration of the Day for the Seafarers (DoTS) was established as the Philippines’ accordance to the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the STCW Convention.
This celebration also paved the way for the launching of KulTOURa, a mobile application that will guide travelers to navigate and enjoy the Philippines.
It is part of Smart and InnoPub’s Digital Tourism Program and a joint project of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Department of Tourism (DOT). During the event, which was themed “#SeafarersMatter“, Free Smart Marino All Abroad SIMS were given to all attendees as part of its commitment to bring high end telecommunication services to Filipino seamen.
The Smart Marino All Abroad SIM is a prepaid roaming SIM specially made to cater to seafarer and crew members. When this SIM is combined with the Marino All Abroad app, our seafarers can now enjoy the lowest call and text rates to over 130 countries around the world.
Unlike the usual travel apps currently available in the market today, KulTOURa contains detailed information on the history of different places in the Philippines including its history, famous personalities who were born there, among other pieces of information that may be enjoyed by tourists and locals alike.
This celebration was not only intended to celebrate and thank seafarers for their sacrifices and dedication, but to also provide them with relevant information on maintaining their well being.
