The Seafarer’s Trust recently launched a new ITF Seafarer’s app which combines its earlier apps, the Look Up a Ship and Find an Inspector.
Since the success of the two previous apps for Android and IOS earlier this year, the Seafarer’s Trust, the charitable arm of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), combined them to provide seafarers with a more convenient service.
The Seafarer’s app allows seafarer’s to find ship information, and communicate with ITF inspectors and affiliated organizations like the International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare (ICSW). This will give the phone or tablet owner a local copy of the data searched for which enable them to still access the information even without internet connection. With this on hand, seafarer’s will have easier time to access the ITF helpline and gather necessary shipping data.
“By making the apps available for free on the two most widely used smartphone operating systems, we hope to reach many seafarers”, stated Steve Trowsdale, ITF head of maritime training and development.
